DIY Daily Shower Cleaner that Works!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—I hate cleaning my shower. The glass, the tiles, the soap scum buildup… it’s a chore I dread. Spending 45 minutes a week scrubbing down a large glass shower is exhausting (and honestly, one of the main reasons I hired a cleaning lady).

Then, I started experimenting with homemade cleaning products, and was amazed to learn how many products you can easily make yourself at home. I had used commercial brand daily shower sprays before, and they worked pretty good to keep the shower maintained in between cleans. So, I figured there must be something natural I can make to do the same thing. I wanted to make something similar without all the chemicals in it.

I’ve found a perfect recipe that prevents soap scum and water residue build-up! It’s also amazing at killing bacteria, so you don’t get mold and mildew as bad. Using this daily shower cleaner, along with my powerful recipe for a No Scrub Shower Cleaner, is a game changer. They make the perfect combo. Like peanut butter and jelly.

Because it’s all natural and chemical-free, it smells great. And this daily shower cleaner works 10x better than store-bought brands. It leaves your shower glass looking spotless, and saves both time and money.

If you use this every day after you shower, your shower will smell better and look better on a daily basis…. not just when you do a full clean of your tub and shower.

In this post, I’ll show you how to make a daily shower cleaner at home that will keep your bathroom fresh and sparkling. It works especially great on glass, but can be used for all types of bathtubs and showers.

Why You’ll Love It

You’ll love it because it works great and is super easy to make! It basically gives your shower a daily clean without any work on your part.

It truly does an amazing job at keeping the mold and mildew that forms at bay, until you do your deep clean. Also, my glass stand-up shower has never looked better in between cleans. It leaves the glass streak free. Sometimes I’ll squeegee the glass first, and then spray it, and that is of course the best results. But with this daily shower cleaner, that’s not even necessary.

Ingredient You’ll Need

Before you mix up this powerful daily shower cleaner, let’s go over the ingredients and why each one matters. Every item plays an important role in tackling soap scum, hard water stains, mildew, and everyday buildup—keeping your shower sparkling with minimal effort.

Hydrogen Peroxide

A natural disinfectant and stain remover. It helps brighten surfaces, kills germs, and prevents mold and mildew from growing in damp shower areas.

Rubbing Alcohol

Speeds up drying time so water doesn’t sit on your tiles and glass. It also helps dissolve oils, leaving your shower streak-free and reducing the chance of water spots.

  • To make this cleaner completely toxin free, substitute the Rubbing Alcohol with Vodka.

Sal Suds
This concentrated, plant-based cleaner is tough on dirt and grease yet gentle on the environment. Sal Suds breaks down soap scum and grime easily, making it perfect for cleaning glass shower doors and tile without the need for scrubbing.

  • Note: Sal Suds is made by Dr. Bronner’s, the same company that makes liquid Castile soap. While Sal Suds is also a natural, plant-based soap it is much more powerful than standard castile soap. I would not recommend substituting castile soap in this recipe – it will not work as well. You could substitute the Sal Suds with Dawn Dish soap if you’d like.

✨ Cleaning Vinegar (no link provided because you can get it cheaper in store)
A natural powerhouse, cleaning vinegar helps dissolve hard water deposits, mineral buildup, and stubborn soap residue. It leaves glass surfaces streak-free and shiny, while also acting as a natural deodorizer for your bathroom.

✨ Distilled Water
Used as the base for the recipe. Distilled water is free from minerals that could otherwise leave behind residue or reduce the effectiveness of the cleaner. It also has a lower chance of bacteria growth in it compared to tap or filtered water. You can also substitute distilled water for boiled filter water.

Tea Tree Essential Oil
Tea tree oil is well known for its antifungal and antibacterial benefits, making it a must-have for shower cleaning. It helps fight mold, mildew, and bacteria, keeping your shower healthier and fresher for longer.

Together, these simple but powerful ingredients create an effective, eco-friendly shower spray that makes daily maintenance quick and easy.

Ingredients

Directions

  • Place your plastic spray bottle (I recommend plastic as this stays in the shower and you don’t want it to break) on a kitchen scale. Make sure to tare the scale so the weight shows as 0.
  • Using a funnel, add all ingredients to the bottle.
  • Place lid on the bottle and shake to combine the ingredients.

Notes

  • I recommend a plastic bottle because this product is for use in the shower. You don’t want broken glass in there!
  • Shake the bottle before each use.
  • For best results, squeegee your shower glass first, then apply the spray.
  • There is no need to rinse after.
  • The product also works best for maintenance. So, start with a clean shower using my No Scrub Shower Cleaner, then keep it clean with this daily spray (or after you shower).
  • Make sure you label your bottle! To make it easy for you, I’ve put together free printable labels for this product that you can download now. I like to print mine on this Vinyl Sticker Paper. It easily sticks right on and is waterproof.

How to Use this Product

  • Shake the bottle to remix ingredients.
  • After each shower or bath, spray the daily shower cleaner on all wet surfaces.
  • Leave to dry, there is no need to rinse.
