If you’re looking for a simple and effective way to boost hair growth naturally, this DIY rosemary-infused castor oil scalp treatment is exactly what your hair needs. It’s made with nourishing castor oil, rosemary, almond oil and essential oils, all of which help to nourish and stimulate the scalp, strengthen hair follicles, and promote thicker, healthier hair growth.

There are many store-bought treatments out there for this, but most of them are full of chemicals and fillers. So why not make it yourself?

This homemade natural scalp treatment is toxin-free and rich in nutrients that support both scalp health and hair growth. Rosemary oil increases circulation to the scalp, while castor oil deeply moisturizes and coats each strand to prevent breakage. Together, they create a powerful, easy-to-make hair growth oil that’s perfect for weekly scalp massages or overnight treatments.

Rosemary infused castor oil, along with a few other oils, is a great treatment if you are someone who is trying to grow out thinning hair. But it’s also great to soothe dryness and flaking, or just maintain a healthy scalp, because this DIY rosemary castor oil recipe will help restore balance and shine — naturally.

I have lots of hair, and it grows fast, but I’m noticing the older I get the thinner it is getting near my scalp. I’ve also always struggled with dandruff, and a dry itchy scalp. I’ve found that this natural scalp treatment for thinning hair using rosemary and castor oil has been a great addition, to assist with all my hair care issues.

It’s primary job is to stimulate hair growth, but a great side effect of that is that in order to do that, you need to have a healthy scalp, which means no more dry scalp or dandruff. This treatment is the perfect option for achieving both results.

Your scalp will never feel better, and your hair will never look better!

How to Make Herbal Infused Oils

It’s easy! There are two different ways to do it. One option will have the oil ready to use within a couple of days, or less, depending on how strong you want it. And the other option, which I personally use for my rosemary infused castor oil, is a cold infusion that takes 6-8 weeks.

Both are super easy to do, and both options work great! You can find a step by step guide for both options in my blog post How to Make Herbal Infused Oil.

You can just use Rosemary essential oil instead, which are powerful and aromatic. However, infusing your carrier oil with dried herbs like rosemary provides a gentler, more balanced way to capture the plant’s full benefits.

An infused oil extracts both the oil-soluble nutrients and phytonutrients from the herb — not just the volatile compounds found in essential oils. This means your scalp treatment is richer in vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids that nourish the scalp and strengthen hair follicles.

Infused oils are also less concentrated and more soothing, making them ideal for regular scalp use without risk of irritation or sensitivity. Plus, they offer a subtle natural fragrance and a more sustainable, cost-effective way to enjoy the power of herbs in your hair care routine.

Just a Few Ingredients!

This recipe stores well if it’s in an air tight container, in a dark cool place. So, I like to make a good amount so I always have it on hand.

Rosemary-Infused Castor Oil

Rosemary-infused castor oil is the star of this scalp treatment. Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid known to stimulate blood flow to the scalp, reduce dryness, and strengthen hair follicles. When infused with rosemary, it becomes even more powerful — rosemary naturally boosts circulation, encourages new hair growth, and helps reduce dandruff and buildup. Together, they create a nutrient-dense oil that supports both healthy scalp function and stronger, thicker strands.

Sweet Almond Oil

Lightweight and deeply moisturizing, sweet almond oil helps balance the thickness of castor oil, making the blend easier to apply and absorb. It’s packed with vitamin E, omega fatty acids, and magnesium, which help repair damage, soften the scalp, and reduce breakage. Almond oil also soothes dryness and itchiness, leaving your scalp nourished and your hair silky and manageable.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is known for its calming scent and scalp-soothing properties. It helps reduce inflammation, balance natural oil production, and even stimulate hair growth by improving circulation to the follicles. Plus, its gentle antimicrobial benefits help keep your scalp clean and healthy while adding a relaxing spa-like aroma to your routine.

Cedarwood Essential Oil

Grounding and earthy, cedarwood essential oil works to strengthen hair follicles and reduce hair thinning by balancing the scalp’s oil production and stimulating blood flow. It also has antifungal and antibacterial properties that promote a clean, healthy scalp environment — ideal for growth. When combined with rosemary and lavender, cedarwood rounds out this blend into a well-balanced, therapeutic treatment for overall scalp health and hair vitality.

Notes

  • This is intended to be used as a weekly treatment, or as needed. I would not suggest using it more than once a week due to the thickness of the castor oil.
  • Make sure you label your jar! You will not remember what is in it. I LOVE my Niimbot B1 label maker and printer for this (Buy in CAN or USA). Its comes with a free and easy to use app where you can design your labels just the way you want. It quickly and seamlessly prints high quality, and waterproof labels. I haven’t found any easier way to keep my DIY products organized and identified, then this label printer. You will love it for everything in your home! How to Use Your Hair Growth Scalp Treatment

  1. Apply to Scalp
Apply a small amount of the oil all over your head, directly on the scalp. Put as much as needed, but remember a little goes a long way. Focus on extra thin areas or areas where are have a concern.
  2. Massage It In
Use your fingertips to gently massage the oil into your scalp.
  3. Let It Sit and Soak In
Allow the oil to sit on your scalp for a minimum of 30 minutes. Applying it at night and letting it sit overnight is best. If you do this, just make sure you cover your hair with a night cap so the oil doesn’t get all over your pillow case.
  4. Wash and Style
Thoroughly wash your hair to remove the air. Castor oil is very thick, so a double wash may be required.
