This all natural hand soap recipe was one of the very first things I made when I started making my own DIY products. I feeling a little overwhelmed with all the information I was taking in, so this simple recipe was an easy place to start. My skin was also in serious need of some help.
My hands used to die in the wintertime. They would get so dry, my knuckles would crack and bleed, and my skin on my hands was 10x brighter red than my arm. There was nothing I could do to keep them moisturized!
This was one of the major reasons I started researching how to make my own chemical, and fragrance free, bath & beauty products. I figured the dryness must at least partially have to do with what I was putting on my skin.
And the more I researched how terrible commercial brands are because of all the junk they put in them, the more I was convinced all natural diy hand soap was the way to go. So, I figured this was a perfect way to test out the waters.
Once switching over to this non toxic foaming hand soap, I noticed a huge difference in my hands. My skin wasn’t near as dry, even in the winter. They didn’t burn and I had very few bleeding cracks on my knuckles. I was amazed.
In addition to the soap, the other products I also started to make was my super gentle (and EASY) Coconut Oil and Honey Face Wash and Shea Body Butter. So every time I wash my face, I will rub the leftover face wash on the back of my hands.
After rinsing that off, I’ll finish with the all-natural Shea Body Butter I make. The face wash gives a gentle exfoliation, along with lots of moisturizing from the coconut oil and shea butter.
I am not lying when I say my hands have NEVER felt better. Even in our harsh Canadian winters.
Even if you don’t have the same struggle with dry skin, I highly recommend this homemade castile soap hand wash. It is all natural and non-toxic. It’s super easy to make for beginners trying to get started with DIY all natural products. And it’s just fun to say you make your own hand soap!

Just a Few Ingredients!
This recipe has just a few simple ingredients, which you can switch up depending on the scent you want to achieve. This is what I use for an amazing smelling peppermint and rosemary scent. Let’s go through all the ingredients you will need to make this non toxic foaming hand soap.
🧼 Peppermint Castile Soap
Peppermint castile soap is the star of this DIY foaming hand soap recipe. It’s a plant-based soap made with natural oils, which means it cleans hands effectively without harsh chemicals. The peppermint adds a refreshing, cooling scent while leaving your skin feeling fresh and energized. Since castile soap is biodegradable and gentle, it’s the perfect base for an all natural hand soap recipe that’s safe for the whole family.
🌿 Rosemary Essential Oil
Rosemary oil is one of my favorite essential oils for many reasons (I LOVE the smell when blended with Spearmint). It brings more than just an herbal aroma to this recipe. Known for its natural antibacterial properties, it helps keep germs at bay while you wash your hands. Adding it to your non toxic foaming hand soap provides both cleansing power and a soothing, spa-like scent. Rosemary is also refreshing for the skin, making this oil a simple but powerful addition to your 3-ingredient hand soap recipe.
✨ Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil is a nourishing addition to this 3-ingredient hand soap recipe. Rich in vitamins A and E, it deeply moisturizes and helps protect the skin’s natural barrier, making it perfect for frequent handwashing. Its light, silky texture blends beautifully with DIY foaming hand soap, leaving hands soft and smooth without feeling greasy. Using sweet almond oil turns this into not only a natural non toxic hand soap recipe but also a gentle, skin-loving wash the whole family can enjoy.
Now that we have that out of the way, let’s get to the recipe!

1/4 cup (2oz) Peppermint Castile Soap
1 teaspoon (0.16 oz) Sweet Almond Oil
15 Drops Rosemary Essential Oil
1.5 cups (12oz) Distilled Water (or boiled and cooled water)
Directions
- In a Foaming Soap dispenser, add castile soap, almond oil
and essential oil. - Fill the dispenser to the top with water.
- Shake well (and shake regularly before each use).
- Download and print free bottle labels HERE and tape them to the bottle.
Notes
- The oils and water will separate as they sit, so it is important to shake the bottle gently before you use it. Included in my free printable labels download is a ‘Shake Me’ label to add to the bottle. This is an easy way to remind your family and guests. I like to print mine on this Vinyl Sticker Paper. It easily sticks right on and is waterproof.
- If you don’t have the peppermint castile soap, you can substitute it with unscented instead. Then simply add around 15 drops of peppermint or spearmint essential oil instead.
- The foaming pump will get clogged if there is too much oil in the soap, or it is made too thick. I recommend not adding any more carrier oil to the recipe if using a foaming hand soap dispenser.
- The additional time in the recipe is just if you need to boil some water first, otherwise this will just take a few minutes to whip together.
