Consistent daily hydration of the skin using a nutrient-rich oil can help support skin elasticity during pregnancy. This homemade stretch mark oil, made with olive oil, aloe vera, and vitamins A and E, when used daily throughout your pregnancy has been proven to prevent stretch marks.

In my personal experience, it helped me avoid a single stretch mark in both of my pregnancies.

This post is for pregnant women who want a natural, affordable stretch mark cream for pregnancy and feel overwhelmed by expensive products that often don’t work.

Who This Is For (and the Problem It Solves)

This article is specifically for:

  • Pregnant women concerned about stretch marks on the stomach, hips, thighs, or breasts
  • Expecting moms looking for a natural stretch marks treatment instead of commercial creams
  • Women who want a simple, proven routine rather than dozens of products

The problem: Stretch marks during pregnancy are common, unpredictable, and often marketed with fear. I know when I got pregnant with my first daughter, I was extremely worried about them because I am prone to stretch marks, and still have many from when I was a teenager. I thought I was going to be covered in them.

Also, many creams are expensive, under-dosed, or filled with unnecessary ingredients. Most women are never told that consistency and skin elasticity support matter more than brand names.

What Causes Stretch Marks During Pregnancy?

Almost everyone gets stretch marks, so we shouldn’t feel embarrassed by them at all. But the reality is that most of us are to a certain extent, and would do anything we can to prevent them in the first place. That’s the easiest way of avoiding them.

Stretch marks, also called striae gravidarum, form when the skin stretches faster than it can adapt. This happens most often during pregnancy due to:

  • Rapid belly growth
  • Hormonal changes that reduce skin elasticity
  • Genetic predisposition
  • Dry or dehydrated skin

Once stretch marks appear, treatment options are limited. That’s why prevention during pregnancy is key. I do an a great stretch mark cream that works great for reducing the appearing of new stretch marks, which has worked great for my teenage daughter. I will link it here shortly, so keep watching for that recipe coming soon!

How to make Stretch Mark Prevention Oil

This is the exact recipe I used consistently during pregnancy. The more consistent you are with using it, the better the results will be.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  • Liquid from 6 vitamin E capsules
  • Liquid from 4 vitamin A capsules

Here are some helpful tips for these ingredients. For the Aloe Vera gel I just buy if from the store, however fresh would be even better if you have a plant. To get the liquid from the vitamin capsules, simple poke a hole in the end of the capsule, then you can easily squeeze out the oil. If you have bottles of either of these vitamins already, you can use those instead.

How to Make It

Making this stretch mark cream for pregnancy couldn’t be easier. It can be whipped up in a matter of minutes and will last for several weeks if stored in the fridge. So even when you are feeling extra tired from being pregnant, you can do this.

All you do is:

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender
  2. Blend until fully combined
  3. Pour into a clean jar
  4. Label the jar
  5. Store in the refrigerator

I LOVE my Niimbot B1 label maker and printer for labeling all my homemade products. It is what I used for the label in the above picture. Its comes with a free and easy to use app where you can design your labels just the way you want. It quickly and seamlessly prints high quality, and waterproof labels.

I haven’t found any easier way to keep my DIY products organized and identified. You will love it for everything in your home! Here are the links for the exact model I use, buy in CAN or USA.

How to Use It

Apply daily, preferably after showering, to areas where stretch marks commonly appear:

  • Abdomen
  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Breasts

Massage gently until absorbed as much as possible. Consistency matters more than quantity, so make sure you apply it daily right from the moment you find out you are pregnant if possible.

Because it will leave you oily, I highly recommend doing this at night time and letting it soak in for as long as you can before putting clothes over the areas you applied it to.

Word of caution ….. it is COLD when you apply it! But it warms up quickly, so don’t worry too much about it. It will be worth it.

Why These Ingredients Support Stretch Mark Prevention

This isn’t a random DIY mix. Each ingredient plays a specific role in supporting skin health during pregnancy.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Rich in essential fatty acids
  • Helps lock in moisture
  • Supports skin elasticity
  • Easily absorbed and pregnancy-safe

Olive oil has been traditionally used for skin conditioning and barrier repair.

Aloe Vera Gel
  • Deeply hydrating
  • Helps soothe itching and tight skin
  • Supports collagen production

Hydrated skin is more resilient during stretching.

Vitamin E
  • Known for its role in skin repair
  • Helps protect against oxidative stress
  • Commonly used in stretch marks treatment products
Vitamin A (Topical Only)
  • Supports skin cell turnover
  • Helps maintain smooth skin texture

Note: Vitamin A should only be used topically, never ingested during pregnancy.

Does It Really Work?

Great question! My answer based on my personal experience, is Yes it absolutely works if you use it consistently. I used this oil every night during both of my pregnancies, I got the recipe from my sister-in-law who used it for both of her pregnancies, and I’ve shared it with friends, and none of us developed a single stretch mark.

I’d say that’s a pretty good track record for a skincare product. It’s so easy to make, easy to use, and contains only healthy natural ingredients, so why wouldn’t you try it?

Here are some key tips for prevention:

  • Daily application began early in pregnancy
  • Used consistently through the third trimester
  • Applied to the same high-risk areas

This does not mean stretch marks are entirely preventable for everyone. Genetics play a role. But it does show that supporting the skin daily can make a significant difference.

How This Compares to Commercial Stretch Mark Creams for Pregnancy

Many stretch mark creams contain similar ingredients, but with key differences:

Commercial creams often:

  • Contain small amounts of active ingredients
  • Use fillers and fragrances
  • Cost significantly more
  • Don’t encourage consistent daily use

This DIY oil:

  • Uses high-quality, concentrated ingredients
  • Is affordable
  • Easy to make and replenish
  • Encourages a simple daily ritual

For many women, simplicity leads to consistency, and consistency leads to results.
