I have always had extremely dry and sensitive skin. In our harsh Canadian winters, there was nothing I could do to keep my skin moisturized. Dry, itchy and flaky skin was just something I had to deal with.
I was constantly having Perioral Dermatitis flare-ups on my face that would last months. I found a really good, but very expensive face cream, that worked pretty good for my face. I still was dealing with skin issues. Not just on my face, but my entire body was dry and itchy ALL-THE-TIME. It drove me crazy.
I finally decided to try out making my own DIY head to toe skin moisturizer to see if it would be better. I can honestly say I’ve never been happier with a product, that I am with this whipped shea body butter for an all over head to toe moisturizer.
Because it uses shea butter, rosehip oil and jojoba oil, it’s very gentle on your skin and non-irritating.
Of course, everyone’s skin is different, so if you have an allergy to one of these ingredients you can easily swap them out with another butter like Cocoa butter or Mango butter, and other carrier oils of your choice. But for the most part all skin types love these ingredients, and do not react badly to them. So if you can, I highly recommend sticking to shea butter and these carrier oils as they work the best.
This Whipped Shea Body Butter recipe is so gentle, you can even use it on your babies! Just leave out the essential oils in that case, or do your research to find ones you are comfortable using for them.

Since switching to my Shea Butter cream, along with my coconut oil and honey face wash, and moisturizing body wash, my skin has never felt better. The itching is gone (for the most part anyway), my face and hands are never dry and flaky anymore, and I have not had 1 Perioral Dermatitis flare-up on my face!
These skin care products, especially this all-over body moisturizer have been a game-changer for me. I will never go back to using anything else.
The Skin-Loving Ingredients Inside This Whipped Shea Body Butter
Every ingredient in this luxurious whipped shea body butter has been carefully chosen to nourish, repair, and deeply hydrate your skin from head to toe — no extra lotion needed.
Shea Butter
Rich in vitamins A, E, and F, shea butter delivers intense moisture and helps restore the skin’s natural barrier. Its fatty acids lock in hydration while soothing dryness, irritation, and inflammation. Shea butter is also known for improving skin elasticity and reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks, making it a true all-over moisturizer.
Rosehip Oil
Often called “nature’s retinol,” rosehip oil is packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids that help brighten and even out skin tone. It supports collagen production, minimizes fine lines, and promotes healthy, radiant skin. Rosehip oil absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy feel — perfect for keeping your skin supple and smooth all day long.
This is the one oil that I truly believe makes this deep hydration body butter as good as it is. I was out of Rosehip oil once when I made it, and the body butter turned out fine, but it definitely was not the same. So I strongly recommend sticking with this carrier oil!! It’s so amazing for your skin.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil closely mimics your skin’s natural sebum, making it one of the best balancing oils for both dry and oily skin types. It delivers lightweight hydration while helping to regulate oil production. This golden oil is non-comedogenic, so it won’t clog pores — ideal for a head-to-toe moisturizer that can even be used on your face.
Lavender Essential Oil
More than just calming for the senses, lavender essential oil has soothing and healing properties that help calm redness and irritation. It promotes skin recovery and relaxation, making your moisturizing routine feel like a mini spa moment every time you apply it.
Bergamot Essential Oil
Bergamot adds a light, refreshing scent while offering antibacterial and skin-balancing benefits. It helps clarify the skin and gives your whipped shea body butter a clean, uplifting aroma that feels fresh and luxurious all at once. Bergamot oil can cleanse pores and is ideal for those with oily skin.
Vitamin E (Optional)
A powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals and environmental stressors. Vitamin E supports skin repair and helps prevent premature aging. In this recipe it is primarily used to enhance the shelf life of your body butter naturally by acting as an antioxidant, which slows down rancidity (oxidation) in the oils and butters used.
Arrowroot Powder (Optional)
This silky, natural powder gives your whipped body butter a lighter, non-greasy feel. It helps the oils absorb quickly into the skin, leaving it smooth and soft to the touch. Arrowroot also soothes irritation and can help reduce shine, making this butter perfect for daily use from head to toe.
Corn Starch is a good substitute for Arrowroot Powder if that’s what you have already.
✨ Together, these natural ingredients create a rich, whipped texture that melts into your skin — leaving it deeply hydrated, silky smooth, and glowing from head to toe.

Equipment:
– Kitchen Scale (buy in CAN or USA)
– 2 6oz or 8oz jars with lids (buy in CAN or USA)
– Stainless Steel Melting Pot (buy in CAN or USA)
– Hand Mixer (buy in CAN or USA)
Directions
- On your stovetop put a couple inches of water in a pot and bring to a light boil.
- Place your melting pot on a kitchen scale and add the shea butter and carrier oils (rosehip and jojoba).
- Place the melting pot with butter and oils over boiling water and stir until the shea butter is melted.
- Let oils cool for 10 minutes or so at room temperature, then stir in the essential oils and vitamin E (you don’t want the butter and oil to be too hot when these are added or it ruins the effectiveness of the essential oils). Stir at least 2-3 minutes to ensure EO’s are well distributed.
- Pour the melted butter and oils into a big enough bowl to whip them in, and chill in the fridge for 20-30 minutes or until you notice a more solidified cast on top.
- Whip it until it’s creamy and smooth, then add in the arrowroot powder. Continue whipping until you’ve achieved the desired texture.
- Placed the whipped butter into jars and cover with lid.
